고등학교에 진학하며 저는 마음이 맞는 친구들과 기도 모임을 시작했습니다. 또 목요일에는 찬양 예배에 참석하며 지금까지 예배를 중심에 두고 있습니다. 하나님은 또 아버지에게 새로운 직장을 허락하셔서 물질적인 어려움도 덜어 주셨습니다. 하나님은 사람을 외모로 취하지 않으시고 오직 진리로 하나님의 도를 가르치신다고 합니다(21절). 학생의 시기를 보내는 제가 멋부리고 싶은 마음을 잘 다스리며 하나님 말씀의 도를 잘 배우길 기도합니다.

Since entering high school, I’ve started a prayer group with like-minded friends and now attend praise nights on Thursdays, keeping worship at the center of my life. God also blessed my dad with a new job, helping us with our financial struggles. Today’s passage reminds me that God judges not by appearances but by His truth (v. 21). I pray that as a student, I will control my desire to show off and focus on learning God’s ways.

주말에 교회 대신 아르바이트에 나가서 물질을 우상 삼는 딸의 모습을 보며, 똑같이 물질을 우상 삼은 채 ‘설마 우리 애들이 교회를 안 다니겠어?’라고 생각했던 제 교만을 회개합니다. 말씀 따라 사는 한 사람으로 중심을 잡으며, 딸이 믿음의 공동체로 돌아올 때까지 제 예배의 자리를 성실히 지키겠습니다(38절).

Watching her work part-time on weekends instead of attending church and idolizing material things made me confront my own idolatry of materialism and my arrogant assumption that my children would never leave the church. I commit to staying steadfast as a person living by the Word, faithfully guarding my place of worship until the day my daughter returns to the community of faith (v. 38).
